Burn Your Feelings
5.5 trad · 3 pitches · 450 ft · ★★★☆
Route 1 of 5 from left to right on Slippery Buttress, with Slip of the Arrow on its right. Slippery Buttress has 5 routes, from 5.5 to 5.10d; 4 are harder.
Description
Burn Your Feelings is easy, but surprisingly fun and quite good. It would make a good beginner multipitch or use it as a warmup for, or relatively straightforward descent from, the harder climbs to the right. Begin on the left side of the Slippery Buttress at a crack/shallow chimney in varnished, featured rock. The obvious landmark is a funny perched log leaning into the crack at the start. See photos.
Location
Left side of the Slippery Buttress.
Protection
Singles to #2 Camalot. 80m rope.
Access
The 13-mile Scenic Drive requires a timed-entry reservation October to May and has seasonal gate hours. Calico Basin and Kraft Mountain sit outside the Scenic Drive and need no reservation.
Wet rock: Aztec sandstone loses much of its strength when wet. Do not climb for at least 24 to 48 hours after rain or snowmelt, or holds break off and routes are permanently damaged.
