Crack Ninja
5.12 trad · 50 ft · ★★☆☆
Route 2 of 9 from left to right on Outhouse Wall, with Karate Crack on its left and Roasting Affair on its right. Outhouse Wall has 9 routes, from 5.7 to 5.12; this is the hardest.
First ascent: Josh Janes - Spring, 2018
Description
This is the obvious second pitch to Karate Crack. From the top of that route, move left around the corner and climb the righthand leaning flake to a big move, then continue up the easier, pretty dihedral to an anchor. This is a stout line - a bit sandy but good, bouldery fun. Finger size and ability to power-lieback will likely shift the grade one way or the other in the 5.12 spectrum.
Protection
1x small to #2 Camalot. An extra #2 Camalot. No wires needed. You may wish to aid up the initial crack and place a #2 Camalot at the top of the flake to protect the first 15' of the climb which are the crux.
Access
The 13-mile Scenic Drive requires a timed-entry reservation October to May and has seasonal gate hours. Calico Basin and Kraft Mountain sit outside the Scenic Drive and need no reservation.
Wet rock: Aztec sandstone loses much of its strength when wet. Do not climb for at least 24 to 48 hours after rain or snowmelt, or holds break off and routes are permanently damaged.
