Zephyr

5.12- trad · 5 pitches · 480 ft

Route 1 of 8 from left to right on Jet Stream Wall, with Jet Stream on its right. Jet Stream Wall has 8 routes, from 5.11a to 5.13a; 3 are harder, and 1 other is the same grade.

Description

Splitter OW/layback crack to squeeze chimney on P1, a roof crack on P2, bolted technical then burly climbing on P3, a dirty corner on P4 and a finger splitter on P5.

Location

Approach as for Jet Stream. Zephyr starts on the left side of the obvious detached pillar 100 feet left of Jet Stream. There is a trail that starts along the cliff about 200 feet climbers left of the start of the climb, but it's tricky to find on the approach and you will probably end up bushwhacking the last 50 feet or so.

Protection

Single rack .3-#6, doubles .3-#3, triple .4-#1. Optional #7 if the 5.9 squeeze chimney scares you. 70m rope.

Access

Timed-entry reservation required to enter the Scenic Drive October to May.

Wet rock: Aztec sandstone is fragile when wet. Do not climb for at least 24 to 48 hours after rain or snowmelt.
