Catch a Fire
5.12b sport · 50 ft · 8 bolts · ★★★★
The Fire Wall has 2 routes, from 5.11d to 5.12b; this is the hardest.
First ascent: Keith Wentz - 1997
Description
An excellent climb and worth the walk to the Fire Wall. A difficult pull over the low roof leads to a desperate passage up thin crimps and shallow pockets to a shake at a jug. From here one more tough sequence leads to better holds and a bit of a run to the anchor.
Location
Begin on a pile of cheater stones just in from the left edge of the low cave: An obvious large flat jug at the lip of the cave helps with identifying the route.
Protection
8x bolts.
Hikes, approaches and descents
- Approach to The Fire Wall — Class 2
Access
Much of the range is the La Madre Mountain Wilderness, managed jointly by the BLM (Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area) and the Forest Service (Spring Mountains National Recreation Area). In the wilderness, no motorized vehicles or mechanized equipment, and no gluing, chipping or chiseling of the rock.
